Onion Outbreak
The recall and illnesses caused by Salmonella oranienburg in whole fresh onions is still ongoing1.
This should not to be confused with last year’s outbreak of Salmonella Newport from June - October 2020 which caused 1,600 reported illnesses.
This year’s (2021) onions were distributed by ProSource Produce LLC and Keeler Family Farms. Onions came from the State of Chihuahua, Mexico2.
Currently as of Nov 19 2021, there have been 892 reported illnesses, 183 hospitalizations, no deaths. Most cases are in Texas and Oklahoma with 38 states and Puerto Rico reporting illness. This is widespread because onions were distributed nationwide as well s being in Hello Fresh and Every Plate meal kits which are sold online.
What you should do?
Don’t buy recalled onions
Throw away any recall onions you may already have
