Clover Leaf Seafoods Corp. is voluntarily recalling two of their Clover Leaf brand Boneless Sardine Fillets; Garlic and Chive in oil and Smoked Jalapeno in Oil. You can read more here and Canada Food Inspection Agency has more information here.
If you have either of these products, do not eat them!! A recall due to potential C. botulism probably means that they weren’t processed to a high enough temperature and so didn’t follow their processing controls listed in their food safety or HACCP plans!
C. botulism produces a neurotoxin, botulinum, and this can be fatal. I recently took a Better Processing School course so I very concerned about the risks with low acid foods such as canned fish.
