The WHO Secretariat recently released a draft of their Global Strategy for Food Safety which was prepared in response to Member States requesting guidance to update their food safety regulations and practices. Since the last guidance was published two decades ago there have been lots of changes to the food system changes including new ways to to produce, manage, deliver and even consume foods. A fresh approach to improve food safety was required. One that aims at strengthen national food safety systems while improving international and national collaboration is required. The Codex Alimentarius and WHO are asking for public comments on this draft report to ensure that content of the strategy reflects the experience, needs and aspirations of the international community.
