I think it would be great if we could just pick up food and know its sustainability factor. As far as I know there isn’t a sustainability factor that we can put on a food packet, like we can list the amount of protein or fat. What would you use to determine that factor? I think the following are important, but I would love to hear your thoughts too.
Growing conditions
Food and ingredient miles
Worker welfare
Community support
Energy and water use
Release of greenhouse gasses
Waste
