The release of the FDA’s Proposed Rule for Food Traceability was big news for the food industry last month. What does this rule mean for smaller food manufacturers?
This article on the Forbes website is a great summary and lays out what we need to know. The proposed rule describes which foods are subject to the requirements in the “Food Traceability List”, what data needs to be collect, which FDA calls Key Data Elements (KDEs) and when data must be collected at Critical Tracking Events (CTEs) on a batch/lot level. This is information that the FDA requires when there is a food safety investigation.
This ruling will mean that if you buy foods directly from a farmer that are on the food traceability list, you must start a record chain! Not sure what records to keep? Book a free food safety coaching call today and let me help!
