Do you remember that bagged salad recall caused by cyclospora contamination? When I wrote that article for my blog we didn’t know the source of the cyclospora on the bagged salad. Up to that point, the CDC said that most cyclospora outbreaks were caused by imported food. Well not this outbreak. A recent update from the FDA shows that the source of the cyclospora is possibly irrigation canal water used by small farms in Florida.
Additionally the carrots are no longer part of this recall, so just the iceberg lettuce and the red cabbage are part of the investigations.
Irrigation water was also implicated in one of the recent outbreaks of E. coli STEC in Romaine lettuce. This time in Arizona and the feedlots were nearby the lettuce fields.
