Up until now, in the US, there have been eight major food allergens that must be listed on the label.
Now there are nine as last week President Biden signed into law the act that makes sesame is the ninth allergen. It must appear on food labels, joining wheat, milk, soy, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, and shellfish. Thus, by January 2023, all products containing sesame must be clearly marked as such.
