Food Safety First
Noncompliance=Death
What a month! We are certainly living through some interesting times! I attended a Food First Webinar where one of the speakers quoted Lenin "There are decades where nothing happens; and there are weeks where decades happen." In the last month, I think we went through several decades of happenings.
A positive outcome is that more of us are aware of the trauma that Black people have to face every day. White Americans, in particular, are learning that history isn't quite what they were taught in school.
While I already started doing anti-racism work, I decided that it was time that I lived up to my values and stated my anti-racism out loud in my promotions and in articles on my blog. The response was very positive and I appreciate that you, my clients and supporters, are on the journey to racial justice too.
I started the month with article about the American food system being built on stolen land, stolen labor and stolen lives. This is something we have continued to see by the treatment of frontline food workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is very frustrating to watch how big food businesses treat food workers.
The next week I wrote about my mum and why she was an important influence when it came to my anti-racism work.
The most recent article discussed food justice and what that means for me as a small business owner who supporters small food businesses.
I would love to hear your stories and opinions. How can we have a more just food system?
Food for Thought
We mustn't lose sight of food safety while all is changing around us! In past few weeks there have been a recall of beef due to E.coli and a recall of bagged salad due to cyclospora contamination. The latter is a parasite and comes from water or food contaminated with feces. Ugh!
Do you know what to do if you have to recall your food product due to contamination or mislabeling? Reach out for a chat if you have any questions.
All the best,
Cathy
