Food Industry Employment Program Newsletter
Food Safety First
Dear <<First Name>>,
Welcome to my monthly newsletter where I share news about food safety, food compliance, and recent books and/or articles I have read. Feel free to share with anyone you think might find this interesting.
Featured Article: Baking Bread Makes Me Happy
I made bread a couple of weeks ago. Nothing unique in that, I make bread every couple of weeks as I prefer bread that is low in salt and sugar and has added fibre. What I found fascinating this time was how the ingredients interacted. It started with putting the molasses and oil in the bowl and continued from there. Interested to find out what I saw? Check out my article out.
Books to Consider
I am still reading Farming While Black by Leah Penniman. The food systems leader's book club had its first meeting and we decided to continue reading this book so we could discuss how to create an anti-racist food system. We are also looking at resources from Food Solutions New England and their 21-day racial equity habit building challenge. If you are interested in joining the book club, please let me know. The book club meets virtually through Zoom.
Compliance and Regulatory News
Probably the biggest news for food manufacturers is the news from the Delaware Supreme Court on overturning the ruling on Blue Bell Ice Cream. The judge ruled that the Board of Directors didn't do enough to ensure that the company was creating their product safely. If you have questions or concerns about the implication about this ruling, please contact me.
Food for Thought
The Food Industry Employment Program is a year old! Woo-Hoo. Happy birthday to us! I registered the business on August 31 2018 and what an adventure the last year has been. Thank you all for joining me on my journey and I hope we continue to travel together for many years to come. What will the next year bring for us?
Schedule a call to discuss exactly what you need to do to ensure the next stage of your food journey runs smoothly and is a huge success.
All the best,
Cathy
